:music: Ive got those broken moped blues :music: However, this time its Jodie's ped. It initially packed up, and she had to push it home. Anyway I got it running again, but did not test ride it. Off she went to college and it cut out again. Spent five hours Sat stripping the carb and cleaning it, replaced spark plug, cleaned air filter (found air filter housing is only being held together by sheer luck), changed the oil (because I could and had some left over from MG last change). Anyway after a bit of fettling it was running and seemed fine, till I took it for a test ride, the get up and go has got up and gone. 20 mph max, adjusted carb, still no joy, rode it for 30 mins (at 20 mph that was fun, not) to check if the auto choke was playing up, still no joy. But at least it was running continuously and should get her to college. Tried it again Sunday, still slow but running. Yesterday off she went to college, half mile down the road and it died, she had to push it home in the :storm: :storm: :storm: then walk to college. I got home and it started straight away, however, it then died. So gents, its a JM Star madness QT 50 (Chinese crap), any suggestions

Sounds a bit like a tight tappet that holding a valve open, possibly?

If it dies slowly then more likely a fuel supply issue.
I take it you have checked the obvious such as blocked air filter or ladies 'accessories' stuck in the air intake. Oh yeah, change the plug as well.

OK just a thought if you give it a separate fuel supply i.e. put it on center stand rig up dummy tank to eliminate fuel supply, now if the float in the bowl is set correct "hight" & the shutoff valve is working to control the fuel level so the main jet is sitting in the correct depth of fuel & it runs, then its a fuel supply. Which would then give you the run, lean-out & stop or run just lean enough to stop the correct fuel air mix to give full power but still run. Now the floats in the carb bowl if the tang that closes the shut off or fuel flow valve is set incorrect this has a major effect on how or if the motor runs, if the valve closes to soon low fuel=lean mix & vice versa high=rich this would be my first starting point. Fuel flow Y/N Float Levels correct Y/N.. if yes to both & it runs sweet fuel supply, tank tap pluming, if yes to both & tank & pluming also fine, then we look else ware but fuel first.
Let us know how it goes.

bin it getting close to doing that, :headbang: :hair: however, after a break to rethink and retry, carb taken to the workshop at work, stripped down again and all jets blown through, changed fuel filter and cleaned air vent in filler cap, anyway this morning rebuilt the lot again and retried, after a while of messing around it was running, took it for a spin seemed fine, stopped at sons house for a cuppa and see the grandkids for half an hour went out and it started and ran fine. took it home and left it outside the garage for four hours and went to retry starting it, playing up again :explode: finally after playing with the throttle position and fighting to keep it running (which was the same as this morning) she settled down and run smoothly. (which was the same as this morning) so I recon its the auto choke, which I have not removed cause when attempted the screw heads stripped faster than Mr K's cheese ones. so tomorrow morning gonna bite the bullet and try again.

Keep us updated but it looks like you are getting close to the problem. On the Blackbird we have a wax device that works the so called choke on the EFI models & if it goes US it has the same effect on running i.e. it wont start or it will start with constant high running then splutters & stops above 3500rpm a right pain in the

looks like I might have cracked it, just got to let the engine get cold again and retry. auto choke on these things is electronic and it looks like it has burnt out, fitted a replacement so fingers crossed.
