Okedoke. Depends on it's condition really and how fussy you are. Have to remember these bikes are jap imports, so finding replacement body parts, plastics etc is difficult if impossible (or v expensive from Japan). So if they're any cracks which you think you can replace easily, think again. Apart from that, most other parts on the bike are either from the ZZR600D or old GPZs, so you can buy new parts if you have part numbers by going down that route. Normal things really, chain, sprockets, tyres, does it start on all 4, my one had problems for ages! How standard is the bike, or do you prefer modded bikes? Check the condition of the seat, any rips or tears, once again hard to replace. Everything else is as you would normally expect with any other bike. I have had my 400 for almost 3 years now....doesn't time fly Had a few bikes since then and currently on a zx-7r, but I still come back to her. No other bike makes me smile soo much. It's nippy, cracking round the bends, looks retro cool, and wherever you go, to any bike meet, you're bound to get people looking and asking you questions. If you don't like revs, get another bike. To get the best of this bike you really need to keep her on the boil. Revs to 14,000rpm, anything above 8 is good. It's fairly ok in top around town at 30mph just crusing, but if you crack open the throttle it will just go blawwwwwwwwww and needs stamping down a few gears. Stunning first big bike, and it's a big bike for a 400. More like a 600 tbh. Hope that helps, any more questions just but I'm going on hols tomorrow for a few days.

Does the rip in the seat bother you, wouldn't bother me, get a seat cover or a bit of ducktape Wee bit of flakey paint you can fix youself, all part of the fun on secondhand cheap bikes. More importantly, does it go well . Then tis up to you. Have fun Oh an YB is a rev junky, he will tell you how to get the best out of the bike, but it will potter along quite nicely as well

28Kms is about 17500 miles. the shims needed doing at about 15000 miles, so check that its been done. if not you are looking at £350 for a dealer to do it as its a cams out job to change a shim. Is the oil clean. At that mileage it should be still golden. If its black then its been neglected. These engines need regular oil changes. Take it for a run and then check the temperature of both front discs. If one is hotter than than the other you have a sticky caliper and that needs stripping, cleaning and possibly new seals. Not a difficult job, but expect £100 from a dealer. Make sure the throttle snaps shut nice and quickly. the throttle barrel can get dry and slow this operation down. Have a look at the cables to make sure they look OK. A bit of a pain to replace and about £15 each cable. As YB says have a good look at the sprockets and chain. if you can pull the chain away from the rear sprocket, its starting to be on its way out. Sorry for the delay in replying, been camping for a few days
