Expanding on from Jeff's idea. You could try using something like Holts Dampstart. It'sether based and will almost certainly start the engine. It might then pick up and carry on with petrol

That was my next step Burchy ;)And ill be getting a can on standby . Well after much tinkering and head scratching its finally running again I took the fuel tap to bits again just to see if i had done correctly then i took the carbs off again and checked . Next the plugs again and while i was checking for a spark i moved one HT lead and the bike tried to fire up with one plug out Checking back to the coils and some dirty terminals which were cleaned up pronto and she fired up The HT leads are iffy and siliconed in at the coil ends so im getting new ones . It could be this or maybe a mixture of many things but now she runs again . Thanks for all your help

Sound like a plan Sparky, it amazes me why people f*ck about with HT leads instead of just replacin them, cause if they are knacked the motor wont run. They carry a lotta voltage so the least wee crack an the voltage escape. So glad you got it runnin again

.Thats right Brakey The HT leads were siliconed in by the previouse owner at an atempt to secure them better to the coils cos they are far too short Ive got some new HT leads today which was quite cheap but as ill be needing plug caps as well i was shocked to find they are £5 each So ive waited to see if i can source some cheaper . Anyone know were i can get some

I don't think there is anything "unusual" about the innards or functioning of the plug caps, but don't the REX versions have the waterseal grommet built into them?

On the gpz at the mo the prev owner put these cheap an nasty rubber HT leads on wich are sealed at the plug cap ends so you cant replace the plug caps Ive ordered some NGK caps now so i can screw in the new HT cable

Try buying new plug caps for the Rex, genuine Kawasaki ones. You'll see what expensive is. I bought 4 . Think they were something like £20 each

Mr kwak tried to sell me some NGK plug caps at £4.80 each I rang another bike shop and got exactly the same ones for £2.80 each Not the sort of thing my local kwak dealer holds a lot of in stock and he only had 3 and they were all miss matched ones Thats right kev, i dont mind a bit of tinkering and its really good feeling to know ive got it going again . Now ive just to replace the HT leads and plug caps on saturday and see how she runs Bloody cold in the shed just now but with some heat from the ole Z things should warm up a bit When i first got it running the shed door was closed but i had to keep reving it to clear the carbs and boy was it smokey in there :mut:

Boy what a difference now ive got new plug leads and plug caps on Instant start up form cold and crisp clear response on the throttle Now all ive got to do is take it for a test run and see if it still has the original problem i started with , the hesitant acceleration Will go around the block sunday to see whats what and nothing else goes wrong
