Race results from the British Grand Prix at Donington Park, round ten of the 2009 MotoGP World Championship.
Andrea Dovizioso wins his first MotoGP race. Colin Edwards takes second from Randy de Puniet at final turn.
Rain began falling as the grid assembled. All riders chose to start on slicks except Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden.
Jorge Lorenzo crashed out of the lead on lap 9 of 30 after touching a wet white line heading into the final turn.
Team-mate and title leader Valentino Rossi then slid out of the lead at the Fogarty Esses on lap 20 of 30, while just ahead of Dovizioso.
Rossi rejoined in eleventh, while Dovizioso had a near ten-second lead over Randy de Puniet. As the weather got worse, Dovizioso's lead was cut to under one-second over de Puniet and Edwards for a thrilling finish.
Stoner and Hayden were lapped before the halfway stage. Wet tyres only proved quicker in the last seven laps, when Marco Melandri, Loris Capirossi and Mika Kallio changed bikes.
