I recently had noticed a bit of a rattle from my engine when powering on and since looking on ZRXOC noticed a post were it describes that this tensioner hits the clutch spring cover on start up when the tensioner is F@cked and of course knackers the chain. I went and checked mine and did also find minor pitting to my clutch spring cover so think i have found the cause of my excess rattles. I have left my bike with my local dealer as i am a mechanical numpty and have been told the tensioner is approx £120 and the chain is approx £25. Total guestimate given was £300 inc oil change Im a bit pissed that this tensioner appears to have failed and my bike has only just hit 8,000mls but would like to know has anyone else sufferd this. I would have part exchanged my bike for a new Z1000 yesterday if they had offerd a decent part ex price for mine Open your oil filler caps for me and look in to the clutch spring cover ! have you got little dinks in the edge of yours ? One tip on the ZRXOC and ZRXOA is never start the rex with the clutch pulled in as you have more chance of this tensioner fouling the clutch cover. Pleases let me know your opinions and help restore the faith in my ZRX .

Steve, can't you fix it yourself? Its not difficult to get the cover and clutch off. Save yourself £58 an hour! I'd be happy to give you a hand if you get the parts assembled. Wouldn't take more than a morning

My bike is already at the dealers on this occasion as i am not over sure whats needed but i may well take you up on your kind offer next time it needs changing. Nice ride to the New forest

Just checked mine. 39889 miles on the clock and no problems or rattles. The only time I'll ever pull the clutch in when starting is when I have a dodgy battery which will then give the starter an easier time. The neutral light works and so does the sidestand switch so I rely on that. Still on the original battery too thinking about it and it's a 52 plate bike. Same here. Not that I'm scared of riding in the rain or anything but like Screwloose, my Rex is meant to be a toy. I get really pissed off with having to clean it just for the sake of riding in conditions that I don't really enjoy anyway. I paid my dues many years ago when I couldn't even afford to own a car and my bike was the only form of transport available to me (apart from the loser cruiser of course). I rode all year round in all weathers and am glad I don't have to now.
