:'(It was quite a misty damp night last night and the bike had been outside for 8 hours while i was working , on start up the bike just didnt want to start , engine turning over but not starting tried full choke half choke and no choke and managed to get it going only just by having to rev it into life with no choke and keep it going on the throttle while it warmed up Any ideas why this is the bikes been fine in the wet and cold before but just this starting problem from cold ..its fine once its warmed up

How old is the battery?
They can spin and fire fine in the warm and dry, but I think it takes a bit more power to do the same in the cool/cold and damp.
Sounds like it might have been just a bit "over enriched" at the start. Often the only way to get an engine going if its been flooded a bit with fuel is to open the throttle wide with no choke at all.

Yes i tried that lightspeed but that didnt seem to work either As for the battery im not sure how old it is it seems to spin over ok but im thinking its something to do with the carburation set up . If the choke lever is pulled fully open it wont start at all until its pushed back to half choke but it has to be just right or it wont start like yesterday :hmm: Being a honda it has a stupid setup ie, turn on the ignition and the lights come on no on off button for the lights, a bad idea if your strugling to start the bike with a low battery Im off out to the shed just now to see how its going to start now its been in the dry only thing i can do in the meantime is keep it in the bike shed at work to keep the damp away

Reckon you will find that the headlights go out when you thumb the starter button. Leastways that's what happens on the 400. Used to get this sort of trouble with the Rex. I now always hit the starter with no choke at all and give the throttle a quick blip at the same time. This is enough to get it going and then I regulate the choke to get an even quick tick-over for a minute or so

Yes this is the way i can only start the bike with no choke :hmm: Had the same trouble again this morning Plenty of juice in the battery and i just gave it half choke instead of full choke but still wont start left it a minute then started it without any choke but i had to keep reving it to warm up and tick over Tomorrow ill use no choke and see how it goes Yesterday evening the bike started fine with choke after being in the shed all day

Don't know if that bike is supposed to start from cold with no choke.
Is it jetted, or the idle circuit set a bit rich?

That sounds what it mite be , ill take the tank off and see whats happening with the choke when activated cos at the mo when the choke is tirned on hardly anything is happening . If the choke is pulled fully on the bike stalls so sounds to me like the choke cable is not properly adjusted Jetted that could be a possibility cos the bike seems to be unusually fast for a 600

Bet its not as fast as the ZZR600 Is the air filter clean? Yep a new air filter and oil filter and new oil was changed last weekend Ive been having a word with someone who knows bikes inside out and he said to check the cable adjustment first but a debate went on about should you use choke anyway . I was asking if it would do any harm starting the bike without choke Reply was no, no harm will be done Out with the spanners again then to check the linkage and see whats happening with the tank off
