GPz rolled through its medical today and was given a clean bill of health. No advisorys or anything. Not surprised, its hardly been anywhere since the last one.
No advisorys although the tester did say something odd to me on handing over the certificate. "Keep an eye on the swingarm bearings", he says, "more to the point the monoshock linkages. They're prone to seizing up on the GPz and those ones of yours are feeling a bit stiff"
That's about the only thing I've managed to achieve on that bike this year.
First time out and the rear linkages were creaking worse than a 90 year old man. There's no way to effectively lubricate the sodding things as the nylon bushing are sealed in. Once they wear after being showered in crud every time it rains theres no alternative but to get the spanners out. WD40 is only a short term remedy IF it works at all.
Stripped the linkages, cleaned the bushes and all worked smoothly.
Put it all back together and geuss what? Yup, Still creaking nicely. :swear:
Replaced the shock. (£190 - Ouch!)
Put progressive springs in the front while I was at it and now both ends are sorted its transformed the handling totally. It's like a different bike - unbelievable.
The new rear shock is a fair bit stiffer even at the lowest settings for little ol' me and is far better damped.
So in answer to our MOT tester friend.
The back end of the bike is now supported on proper springs and not a piece of soft cheese as supplied by Kwak.
That's why it feels stiffer. :son:
