Hi guys, got a call from my dad today telling me he had just bought an old bike. Its a z1000st 1980 24k miles old v reg. Its in reasonable condition apart from a torn seat, and apparently just needs some TLC as its been stood for years in a garage. He has paid £600 for it and i was wondering if he has found a real bargain? as far as i am aware these bikes are collectors items, and surely it would make some money if brought back to life? I have searched the net but can't get any info on its value. anyone got an idea?

I would imagine anything over 25 years now is starting to go up in value again - i didn't loose any money when i bought a 1981 gsx250 a two years ago and sold it a year later.

Hard to say really. It's not old enough for classic status. It was certainly not one that everybody lusted after. Having said that, the main thing would be that it is complete. Parts that are there can be refurbished, parts that aren't can't and can be hard to find.
Speaking from personal experience I have found that restoring a poor one costs more than finding a good one in the first place. But doing it that way doesn't give you so much satisfaction. End of the day you pays your money & takes your choice.
As long as it ran I would have paid £600 for it, if not I don't think so.

I had a Z1000ST from new - it had really interesting handling, even for those days As Phoenix has said, not many folk lust after them but for what you`ve paid, it should be fine I`d sell it when it was done though
