Hey guys, i am new here (first post), i have had my REX 400 (an ELR hope thats right) for about a year now, and ts time for a back tyre change, been riding round with a slow puncture for a few weeks *cough* months and the tyre is getting bald.
Anyway, i digress;
Where the hell do i get a back tyre? the tyre itself is 150/70 ZR18 and is nigh on impossible to find.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Teh Smeg

That tyre site is great! Know anywhere where i could get Rex spares? the bike wasnt in the best nick when i got it, could do with a new bikini fairing, back light cover, back end plastic-bit-thing-under-the-seat-kinda, erm, exhaust... hmm this list is getting rather large, but i do love to tinker. Talking of which, i think one of my carbs has some dirt in it(one cylinder is on full choke constantly), anyone know any remedies other than taking the carbs appart? sSorry for all the questions

Can't see any other solution than get them carbs off. You don't want to be running with any amount of choke on for any length of time ass the mixture is obviously way off.
It's not too difficult a job. Its easy enough to get the 3 cables off with a bit of cunning. You will have to remove the carb heater pipe, so be prepared to plug the pipes to avoid losing all your coolant. The airbox has to be slackened off so it can be moved back to get the rubbers free and then the carbs will come out sideways.
Welcome to :zrxuk: BTW

Hi and welcome madsmeg. I have a 400 myself and ur right parts for them are hopeless but you might be in luck. Check out ebay, under zrx400 and they have had a bikini fairing in primer so you can paint it in elr for sale their for months. They also have the tail unit in primer too. Good luck!

Bah, middle of winter and i have to get outside and get my fingers all cold and oily Well thanks for the info i will have to have a look at that when i have the time (about 2 weeks). Is there any way i might mess up the mix by messing with the carbs? would i be better off just putting it in a *garage*? I use my rex every day (or near enough) i wouldn't count my self as a fair weather rider by any means so the less time off the road the better.

I guess it all depends on how confident you are and how much spanner time you have under your belt. Carbs are quite delicate instruments and can be easily damaged internally by being ham-fisted. It's got to be your call about garaging it or not

Well first i will check if it is the carbs, basically my bike takes quite a while to warm up and i get alot of white smoke for the first 5 mins of running, i am getting petrol in my oil tank which is not nice. I asked around and a carb problem is what i had big response with.

Can't remember if the 400 has a vacuum tap, if it has then that maybe faulty and dripping petrol thru overnight,(or left on prime) very dodgy if so, as you could get a hydraulic lock when you go start it and the cylinder is full of fuel and is on the compression stroke! that means engine damage. Also petrol in your oil will thin it down and could cause you problems with possible engine lubrication issues ( i.e. lack of) Don't want to panic you by any means but you need to get someone who knows to look at it for you to pinpoint the problem. Dirty carbs either causes the float bowl to overfill in which case you will see petrol pissing out underneath via the overflow pipe, OR it causes a misfire or a sluggish throttle response as there isn't enough petrol getting thru.
