I'm not all that familiar with the 400 but will answer as best I can. If you've put a larger rear sprocket on your 400 as I have done on my 1200 then the rev counter should indeed rise slightly when compared to the speedo because you've lowered the gearing. I'd guess that by fitting a smaller rear wheel, what you have effectively done is gear it back up again. I'm assuming that the speedo drive is via the front wheel and not the gearbox? I did have a link for a motorcycle gearing calculator but that appears to be defunct. I'll let you know if I can find another suitable one.

The rear sprocket i have put on is THREE teeth less than standard. Where is jam when you need him?

You'll need you manual for this one. Substitute the ZRX400 gear ratios, wheel and sprocket sizes in this gearing calculator and it should help answer your questions. ;D Should work for any bike by replacing the appropriate figures..

spoke to jam last night, what i would have gained dropping three teeth on the rear(not alot) i have lost putting the 17 inch rim on (for better tyre choice) so back to the drawing board.

Rang jam today to pick his brains, now got computer access in the village chip shop. So should be able to keep up to speed while off work.

Just had a Tx from Jam to say he is about to fire up his 400 to 600 conversion on his ZRX400 , Good luck Jam we await in anticipation and hope all the hard work you put in has really paid off
